Education and Theology Conference
*

18th October 2005

Dear Colleague

CES Annual Education & Theology Conference, 2nd December 2005, Eastwood Hall, Mansfield Road, Eastwood, Nottingham, NG16 3SS

You may remember that last year the CES inaugurated an Annual Education and Theology Conference.  This was a great success and I am now pleased to announce this year’s conference.

The conference is about ‘On The Way To Life.  You will have read about this seminal document in The Tablet and other Catholic media.  At a colloquium earlier this month Archbishop Nichols spoke of ‘On The Way To Life’ and the process that it begins, describing it as a momentous occasion, likening it in its potential to the events of 1850 which led to the restoration of the hierarchy.

On The Way To Life’ is commissioned by the Bishops’ Conference and written by the Heythrop Institute for Religion Ethics and Public Life.  It addresses our ever changing culture with specific reference to Catholic education catechesis and formation.  It stimulates a process of reflection and dialogue in our community.

I do very much hope that you will be able to attend this important conference and that you will encourage others such as your school chaplain to join in this event.  Father James Hanvey SJ, author of the report, will lead the conference and be accompanied by Dr Tina Beattie, University of Roehampton (Tina has published a review of ‘On The Way To Life).  Participants will all be given a free copy of the report and the day will provide opportunities for dialogue and debate at this crossroads in our culture. These will feed into the overall process and collection of responses.

I attach a flyer to advertise the conference and application details I hope that you will feel able to share this publicity.  Please do not hesitate to contact me for any further information.  You can access more information about ‘On The Way To Life’ including reviews through www.cesew.org.uk/otwtl .

Yours sincerely

Oona Stannard
