CES press statement in response to the story of a Catholic teenager asked to remove her crucifix in school (12th January 2007)
*

Chief Executive and Director of the Catholic Education Service, Ms Oona Stannard said:

”We do understand how important it is for schools to have a policy on jewellery and uniform which is compliant with health and safety requirements.  It appears that Samantha would be allowed to wear a Christian symbol on a lapel badge. No young person should be embarrassed by their wish to quietly and respectfully make their faith evident and the opportunity for a lapel badge would allow this.”
