CES welcomes Welsh legislation on school councils (13th November 2006)
*

The CES has welcomed the Welsh Assembly Government's decision to make school councils a compulsory part of life in every school in Wales, the first part of the UK to do so.

CES Chief Executive and Director, Oona Stannard, said: "I am delighted that the Welsh Assembly has taken the lead on this issue.  We have learned from other parts of Europe that a school council can have a vital role in enabling pupils' voices to be heard.  School councils are useful tools of communication and help students to engage in decision-making processes within appropriate structures.  Many schools in England and Wales already have successful councils, and I hope that others will seek to follow their example."
