School Admissions Consultation

School Admissions Consultation

The long-awaited consultation on School Admissions has been published today. It includes the new School Admissions Code, Admission Appeals Code and draft regulations relating to admissions forums, decisions by the adjudicator on looked after children, infant class sizes, the determination and co-ordination of and objection to admission arrangements, appeals and aptitude for particular subjects.

The consultation may be accessed at www.dfes.gov.uk/consultations and closes on 1st December 2006.

The intention is for the new Codes and regulations to come into force on 1st February 2007.

The CES will continue to lobby Government ministers and parliamentarians on admissions in the coming weeks and will also make a formal response to the consultation.

We welcome views from all those involved in Catholic education on the proposed changes to the admissions systems and ask for contributions to be sent to admissions@cesew.org.uk in the first instance.
