Statement on the work of the Charles Plater Trust Grant Making Body
I am pleased to announce that the Trustees of the Charles Plater Trust have confirmed the membership of the Grant Making Body. I am confident that under the Chairmanship of John Taylor, also a Trustee of the Charles Plater Trust, the Grant Making Body will be able to robustly evaluate the 37 bids which have been received for this first round of awards. The members of the Grant Making Body have a challenging and sensitive task ahead of them but it is important that each bid be considered carefully so that we, the Trustees, ensure that the vision of Father Charles Plater lives on in the 21st century serving Catholic social justice and education with integrity and reflecting the Deed of the Charles Plater Trust.
The Grant Making Body brings great wisdom and rich insight, grounded in a sound experience of Catholic life as well as experiences in the wider community setting. The members are bound by their individual commitment to the Church’s social teaching and to education and lifelong learning.
I hope that the Grant Making Body will be able to make their recommendations to the Charles Plater Trustees in time for decisions to be announced before Christmas.
Most Reverend Vincent Nichols
Archbishop of Birmingham
Chairman, Department for Education and Formation, Catholic Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales
