Following discussion with the CES Census Working Group and at the Data & Evaluation Meeting, the CES requested that dioceses enter into a Data Sharing Agreement to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 in relation to the use of the data. At the time the Agreement was distributed the dioceses were advised that if they were to release data to others they would need to enter into similar data sharing agreements. Whilst many diocese may well have produced their own agreement, the CES have prepared a model agreement for use by dioceses should they wish to do so. The document is drafted on the presumption that the dioceses may link the data from the CES Census with other data in their possession prior to passing on data sets to others. In such circumstances the diocese becomes a data controller whilst still owing obligations to the CES under the terms of the Data Sharing Agreement between the CES and the Diocese.
