Catholic schools and the teaching of evolution
Catholic maintained schools follow the National Curriculum for Science in the same way as other state schools. Darwinism and evolution are thus dealt with in Science in Key Stage 4. In religious education, pupils in Catholic schools would study the literary form of the Creation story in Genesis accompanied by teaching on how to interpret and understand this. They are likely to have the opportunity to discuss and question the theory of creationism. However, we would not expect creationism to be taught as a theory in Science.
