Olympic athletes make the Catholic community proud (4th August 2008)
*

In the build-up to the Olympic Games, the CES is proud to support the following Olympic competitors associated with one of the five Catholic higher education institutions in England, St Mary's University College, Twickenham:

Men

Andy Baddeley                  1500m –MSc in Sport Performance student currently on leave of absence to concentrate on athletics

Mo Farah                              5,000m – one of the first two athletes at the start of the Endurance Performance Centre; now a full-time athlete

Matthew Wells                 Men’s Double Sculls – former student

James Tindall                     Hockey – former student

 

Women

Rebecca Romero              Track Cycling – graduated in 2002 with a BSc English/Sport Science - currently double world champion and 2004 Olympic silver medallist in Women’s Quadruple Sculls

Nicola Sanders                  BSc Sport Rehabilitation student currently on leave of absence to concentrate on athletics – world silver medallist

Jo Pavey                              5,000m and 10,000m – based at St Mary’s to train

Kate Reed                           10,000m – graduated in 2006 with a BSc Health, Nutrition and Exercise/ Sport Science

Jemma Simpson               800m –BA English/Media Studies graduate 2008

Susan Scott                         1500m – based at St Mary’s to train

Stephanie Twell                1500m – entering second year of BSc in Strength and Conditioning Science – currently World Junior 1500m champion

Mara Yamauchi                 Marathon – Endurance Performance Centre athlete but mostly based in Tokyo
