ANNUAL CES EDUCATION AND THEOLOGY TEACHERS’ CONFERENCE: 2ND DECEMBER 2005

EASTWOOD HALL, NOTTINGHAM

On 18th October 2005, Oona Stannard wrote to you over the forthcoming Annual Teachers’ Education and Theology Conference organised by the Catholic Education Service.  The Conference this year has been entitled Our Memory, Our Mission, Our Future and will build on last year’s successful conference with Fr Michael Himes. It will comprise of presentations and workshops by Fr James Hanvey, SJ former headteacher of Saint Aloysius School, Glasgow and now Director of Heythrop Institute for Religion, Ethics and Public Life and Dr Tina Beattie, Lecturer in Theology at Roehampton University.

James is a co-author of On The Way To Life and Tina one of its reviewers. The Bishops’ Conference commissioned this study to analyse the significant features of contemporary culture and their bearing on the context of Catholic education and formation. The subsequent report begins a period of reflection and discussion on the Church’s mission in the contemporary world. How do we relate to the Church, to the young and how do we teach in this context? As headteachers and teachers you play a critical part in the Church’s work with the young and adult members of the community and your reflections are important to this endeavour.   Equally, I am confident that listening to our speakers and studying On The Way To Life will also refresh and inform you, helping you to carry our your work with renewed conference.

I hope you are able to attend and look forward to welcoming you to Nottingham.  I have attached a flyer for the conference.

Thank you for reading this and know that you remain in my thoughts and prayers.

Yours sincerely

Fr. Joseph A. Quigley

National Religious Education Adviser
