Each year on the occasion of the major festivals of three of the World faiths – Buddhism, Hinduism and Islam – the Pontifical Council for Inter-Religious Dialogue sends a special greeting on behalf of the Pope to those faith communities. This greeting takes the form of a meditation on a shared core value and it is always very well received by those communities. In the UK this greeting has become very effective as a means of outreach, often on a personal basis, to other faith communities.
Many Catholic schools already have strong links with other faith communities. We hope that by positing these greetings on our website, we will encourage all schools to consider whether they are able to us them, and if there are other actions they are able to take to foster inter-faith dialogue. Individual students may enjoy the opportunity to use the message to engage more with their own faith and that of others.
When the greetings are posted, information will be included in our fortnightly update email to alert schools and colleges.
